It was an exciting day last Friday, June 17th on campus, as the 1st XI prepared to play againt RBAI in the Ulster Schools' Cricket Cup Final . A large crowd of students, staff, OCs and visitors lined the pitches to cheer on the team. After a delayed start due to rain and overs reduced to 35, the game eventually got underway. The teams were well matched and provided an entertaining game for the crowd. In the end, Campbell pushed their opponents hard and won the game by two wickets:
RBAI 183/7 (35 overs, Tom Crothers 52, Rory Ellerby 28, James Rose 27, Adam Leckey 22, Zac Solomon 5/33, Carson McCullough 2/20)
Campbell College 184/8 (33.5 overs, Ryan Hunter 84, Carson McCullough 39, Adam Leckey 3/27, Tom Crothers 2/11, Robert Craigan 2/38).
Afterwards, Mr. Andy McCrea, Head Cricket Coach and Head of Technology and Design commented:
The boys were superb
The grounds were superb
The pitch was superb
It was a great showcase for CCB!
'I am just delighted for the boys', he continued, 'not just the 11 who played in that final but for all the pupils who have played their part this year as they have all played some part in the success. This is the first time CCB has won the Ulster Cricket Schools' Cup in the format that it is now played and the boys should be very proud of that achievement and the way they played, conducted themselves and got through the competition and across the finish line. I am very proud of them.'
Mr. McCrea added that this is not an easy competition to win so it really is a great achievement. 'They will all look back fondly on what they have achieved together and others will look forward hopefully to more successes in the future'.
For more on the match, you will find photos and a match round-up on the Cricket Europe website. Congratulations to the team and everyone who contributed to their success!
It's been a great season for Mr. McCrea who was recently awarded the B.E.M. if you missed that news, you read more on our news page here.
