STEADY RESULTS FOR CAMPBELL AS NI RETURNS TO EXAM NORMALITY
15 Aug 2024
General

121 students at Campbell College opened their A Level and BTEC results today (Thursday 15th August 2024) in the first year for Northern Ireland schools since 2019 where no adjustments were made to compensate students for the impact of Covid.

Overall Campbell pupils delivered a steady performance with 1 in 3 pupils (31%) achieving A*/A or Distinction*/Distinction which matches the College’s results in 2019. 85% of pupils achieved A*-C or Distinction*-Merit in BTEC, representing a marginal increase since 2019 for the College. 2019 results were the best the College had delivered in 15 years.

Whilst the rest of the UK had returned to normal examination conditions in 2023 this was the first year that Northern Ireland schools were returned to the pre covid landscape.

Of note was the performance of 15 students who achieved a clean sheet of A*/A’s or Distinction*/Distinctions representing 12% of the cohort.  Equally significant was the outstanding performance of the Chemistry Department who, for the first time ever, achieved 100% A*-C grades.  Other subjects achieving 100% A*-C included Art and Design, Design and Technology, German, History, Further Mathematics and Moving Image Arts with Business Studies achieving 100% Distinction *- Merit.

Commenting on the results Headmaster, Mr Robert Robinson, M.B.E stated. “Following two years with no external exams and then two years of Covid adjustments we were interested to see how our results would fare this year in comparison to 2019. We are delighted to have held our levels to match 2019 when we celebrated our best results for over 15 years. As a school that selects only 70% of its Year 8 pupils on academic criteria these results are even more impressive. Huge congratulations to all the pupils and staff for their dedication and commitment and we wish everyone the very best as they embark on the next chapter.”
