Every year Campbell College enjoys opening its doors as part of the European Heritage Open Day and this year was no exception. Our Year 14 students had been training hard since returning to school to be 'Tour Guides' for the day and on Saturday 9th September Luther, Mitchell, Sam, Gordon and Patrick were ready and looking forward to hosting visitors on a full history tour of the College and Campus.
From 1890 through two world wars and up to the present day, the tours were packed full of facts and stories on key parts of the College's history including; C.S Lewis, the Men Behind the Glass, The Belfast Blitz, Belmont House, Archtiect W.H Lynn and much more. All the tours were fully booked with more people arriving on the day. Whilst most visitors were local there were groups travelling from Kilkenny and as far afield as the US! One visitor commented. "The pupils were a credit to the school; we had no idea there was so much history behind the walls.and had always wanted to come and have a look. It has been a superb morning."
In addition to the tours, the College was showcasing its new 'Digital Archive' which allowed Old Campbellians seek out images from their own past and find stories and pictures of themselves from days gone by. Old Campbellian Mark Daniels was able to find a photograph of himself on the 1st XI hockey team in 1989 and another Old Campbellian found himself in a whole school photo from 1959! If you want to take a look at the Digital Archive just click here. Or alternaitively you will find our Digital Archive on both the College Hub and the Old Campbellian websites.
Thanks to eevryone who joined us for the day and to the pupils in particular. We look forward to 2024!
