In the first in our Quintessentially Campbell series, we explore the boar's head emblem. This iconic symbol has adorned our blazers, caps, pins, and sports kits for over 130 years. A taxidermy boar’s head welcomes visitors at Front of House, while two boar statues flank the main driveway, and a junior version greets students at Junior School.
Rooted in Clan Campbell heraldry and used since the College's foundation, the boar features prominently in our Coat of Arms, Crest and Badge, granted in 1955.
At our recent Open Day, this silver boar’s head pin caught the eye of many students and visitors. No connecting documentation identifies who the pin belonged to, or what it was used for. One current student suggested it was for Scholars, as it looks quite similar to the Scholar pin today. Perhaps you know the answer? Do get in touch if you have any ideas.
If you have something about the history and heritage of Campbell College that you would like to know more about or see featured in this series, please get in touch with the College Archive Engagement Officer, Mrs Jenna Robinson at jrobinson915@c2ken.net.
We also have an ongoing project to digitise and make widely available our Archive collection. It can be viewed here: Campbell College Archive.
