It was a pleasure to welcome Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Jonny Quinn as Chief Guests for our 2019 Speech Day. 2019 marks the College’s 125th Anniversary and as Snow Patrol celebrate their 25th year it was a fitting tribute enjoyed by over 500 pupils, staff and parents.

Jonny, who found his love for drumming during his years at Campbell as a member of the College Pipe Band, was treated to a performance from the College’s current Pipes and Drums. While Gary returned to the Music Department to speak with GCSE and A-Level Music students about his life in the music industry.

Mr Andrew Doherty, Head of Music commented “We were thrilled to welcome Gary back to the Music Department, it was a very exciting opportunity, and one that was extremely beneficial for our pupils and staff.  A superb opportunity for the pupils to hear from a former pupil who has achieved so much in the world of music.”

Headmaster, Mr Robert Robinson, MBE commented; “Gary and Jonny embody the ethos of Campbell; to inspire individuals to be the best they can be; contribute to the world around them and grow into men of character. It was a privilege to watch them encourage the next generation of Campbellians to fulfil their potential; whether in the classroom or on the stage!”

A huge thank you to our Old Campbellians Gary and Jonny for making yesterday such an amazing occasion. To say that the College is buzzing is an understatement. Boys, parents, staff and all that were there have been given a memory they will never forget.    Both were unbelievably generous with their time and their conversation; the College is proud to be able to call them our Alumni!
