Building for the Future is the College's long term campus development strategy and aims to protect our unique heritage buildings and improve our facilities across campus ensuring Campbell College is fit for the future.
In 2019 we were delighted to open our new boarding accommodation as the first phase of our ‘Building for the Future’ vision. Representing a significant investment this modern accommodation boasted 65 new ensuite rooms bringing our boarding capacity to 180 and is now a well established part of the boarding offering.
Work on the Building for the Future: Heritage project began with the restoration of the Clock Tower in early July 2022 and took 10 months to complete at a cost of £1million. It was the first part of a major restoration and preservation project across all our heritage buildings that will take 10 years to complete and cost an estimated £10million.
The work is being phased year on year in order of priority, and in 2023/2024 another face of the Victorian buildings was refurbished. The same processes occur in each phase - the roof is stripped, new felt insulation added, and new slates and ridge tiles fitted. Chimneys are repointed, or removed and rebuilt, all brickwork is cleaned, repointed, cleaned and sealed. Windows are replaced with identical double glazed units, identical in appearance to the original. Sandstone windowsills and lintels are refreshed or, more often, replaced.
In 2024/2025, the front face of the College was scaffolded for Phase 3 to begin. This latest phase should be complete by the summer. The College will not only look pristine once more, but will also be more energy efficient and better protected from the elements.
Phase 4 will begin later in 2025 and will involve the main areas of New House. We will be keeping you up to date with progress on the Heritage works via regular updates on the Campbell Community Hub.
