Around The Clock Tower January 2023

A roundup of recent progress on the Clock Tower

Work on the Clock Tower has been progressing well thanks to some fine weather over the last few months. Max Porter (10092), partner at Johnston Houston, provided a quick summary of work to date. The weathervane has been cleaned and repainted and a new lightning rod added. The chimneys have been restacked and the roof tiles have been replaced. The slates were restored as much as possible in line with sustainable practices. Max spent time to show us the range of tiles salvaged and restored for resuse. A wash will soon be applied to the bricks, helping to avoid moss growth.

Work on the windows, the next phase of the project, will begin next week. Max showed us the condition of the window transomes and mullions prior to restoration and the windows that have received new stonework. As you will see, it's quite a transformation!

We are looking forward to the windows arriving next week, and the site team are really looking forward to seeing the glass in place as this will enhance the face of the building. More updates on this to follow.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our Heritage Appeal. So far, we have rasied 30% of our target and a number of pledges are also in place. Every penny counts as we strive to support this important work.  If you would like to donate or learn more about our Heritage Story and the capital development plans for the College, please visit our Building For the Future fundraising page.
