As the academic year draws to a close, we bid a fond farewell to our Headmaster, Mr Robert Robinson, MBE, who retires after 13 years of distinguished service.
Mr Robinson joined Campbell in 2012, bringing with him a clear vision for academic excellence, pastoral care, and the preservation of the College’s rich traditions. Under his leadership, the College has flourished, achieving record academic results, expanding its boarding and day communities, and undertaking a series of transformative capital projects that have enhanced both the learning environment and the spirit of the school.
A scientist by training and a teacher by vocation, Mr Robinson has always believed that education is about more than examination results. His tenure has been marked by a deep commitment to developing young men of character - resilient, respectful, and ready to contribute to the world beyond the College gates.
Earlier this week, the College community gathered in Central Hall for a special assembly in his honour. The Head was piped in by George Pipe Major of the Campbell College Pipes and Drums, and boys from Years 8 to 11 shared their memories and thanks. Head Prefect Jed read one of Mr Robinson’s favourite Psalms, and tributes from Mr Oswald and Mr Ashfield captured the affection and admiration of the staff. Gifts were presented, including a bespoke Robert Robinson tartan and a handcrafted bird table made from fallen campus trees. The choir closed the event with a moving performance of The Lord Bless You and Keep You, joined by former members who returned especially for the occasion.
At Speech Day, Mr Robinson reflected on his time at Campbell with characteristic humility and warmth. He spoke of the joy of seeing boys grow into young men, of the challenges weathered together and of the enduring values that define the College. His closing words, drawn from Robert Burns, reminded us that “the best is yet to come.”
We thank Mr Robinson for his unwavering dedication, his inspirational leadership, and the countless lives he has touched. He leaves Campbell College a stronger, more vibrant community and a place that will always carry his imprint.
We wish him every happiness in retirement, and time to enjoy his many passions, including reading, running, and playing guitar, as well as precious time with his wife Sharon and grandchildren Samuel and Lucy.
Ne Obliviscaris.
