NICILT in connection with Queen's University German Language Department hosts an Annual Spelling Bee competition for local Year 9 students to test their spelling prowess. Each school was allowed to enter one student to the competition.
To find our strongest student, Frau Kirsch ran a competition in school. Students were required to learn 50 words and spell as many words as possible within the 60 second time limit. Oscar, Year 9 (Yates's) came out top and was put forward for the Grand Final.
Queen's university provided a new set of 50 words to contestants a week prior to the competition. The competition took place on March 3rd online and Oscar faced some tough word challenges and competition from the other contestants. We were delighted that Oscar performed really well and achieved second place!
Oscar kindly spent some time chatting with us about his experience and preparation for the event:
What a great achievement. Congratulations on your success Oscar!
