We were delighted to host Mike Gibson (4368) M.B.E. and friend Rowan Kitt, Fellow & Development Director of Queens’ College, Cambridge to our campus. Rowan commented that he had heard so much about Campbell from Mike, he was excited to see where the famous rugby playing career began. Not only that, Rowan recalled the number of talented players from Campbell who continued their rugby career at Cambridge University. It was quite a list!
Mike enjoyed revisiting the U15 field which was home to him and the site of many cherised wins. Although Fox's Fields is now the premium rugby pitch, it had not yet been developed when Mike attended Campbell. He also enjoyed seeing the cricket pavillion which Mike noted had not changed since he was at school. Many of you may not know that Mike was also a successful cricket player, captaining both our team and the Irish Schools XI team too!
Mike previously returned to Campbell in 1966 just after his British Lions career had taken off, to open Fox's Fields. Today, he was so impressed with the quality of the pitch and remarked how lucky our pupils are to have such a great surface to play on. Mike will be watching the cup results keenly in the next few weeks, hopeful for another Campbell victory!
