We welcomed our new Lower 6th Form students today for their Induction Day. The Headmaster opened the morning by congratulating our students for their recent GCSE success, the best results the college has seen in a decade. He advised students that they will each have different goals and aspirations but they all need to bring the same positive attitude to their studies to ensure continued success. After a welcome from Head of Year 13, Mr Farr he reminded the students that with taking fewer subjects, they will not have classes every period in their schedule, so they need to develop their independence and organize their time wisely. Mrs, Coetzee, Head of 6th Form had additional advice and advised students to remember the following 4 points:
1. AS levels are a big jump from GCSEs and so require a different approach to ensure a successful outcome.
2. While many may have revised work only for tests and the final GCSE, A Level work requires constant reviewing and students should budget 5 hours/ week to each subject. The study Hall is a great place to revise!
3. GCSE results are not an indicator of your results for A Level. The most important indicator is the attitude to all their endevaours over the next two years.
4. Research shows that students who actively participate in careers talks and work expereince whilst in school enjoy enhanced earnings and success in their future careers. So, take as many opportunities as you can to further your knowledge.
To help students begin the process, workshops were provided on motivation, effective study skills and a refresher on the Unifrog system for prepping for UCAS applications which will be starting a year from now. Good luck to all our students as they being this exciting journey!
