Oxbridge Trip 2023

General News

Last weekend, 13 Year 13 students enjoyed three days on the Oxbridge trip, attending events at both the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, accompanied by Mrs Jan Hempstead (Careers Coordinator for Sixth Form) and Ms Kirstin Marshall (Joint Head of English).

The purpose of the Oxbridge trip is for students to learn more about studying and applying to these world class institutions. By staying in both Jesus College, Oxford and Corpus Christie, Cambridge, and through meeting student ambassadors and admissions officers, they were able to gain valuable insight into life as an undergraduate in such a unique setting. Students timetabled their own day in Oxford, to include admissions talks in their own areas of interest and in Cambridge, were privileged to attend a selection of ten-minute talks, with Q and A, from leading academics at the Pembroke Open Doors Festival. These included a range of fascinating studies such as 'How to grow a leg on your face' by Prof Tim Weil of the Zoology Department and ' Law and the Meaning of Life', by Prof Nick McBride, Director of Studies in Law.

In addition to the academic activity the students enjoyed free time exploring the sites and punting along 'The Backs' on the River Cam. The glorious sunshine certainly showcased each city at its best.
